EDU projects

Web design and production

edu develops user-centred educational websites and other digital media - our production services include:

site scoping and specifications;
proof of concept and prototyping;
information management and architecture;
interface design, css stylesheets;
site production - web editors, coding or CMS¹;
integration of rich media (e.g. Flash, Shockwave);
site marketing, documentation and training.

We work within a project team structure comprising client staff, our team and project stakeholders, to provide web solutions optimising design, content and functionality for the user.

edu is committed to standards rather than specific technology solutions.

Technical environments for our projects have been many and varied - HTML, XHTML, XML, various content management systems (CMS), Flash, Shockwave, RSS, Microsoft ASP, PHP, MySQL, WebCT and a range of open source applications.

Standards - w3c coding and accessibility, Dublin Core & AGLS metadata, SOAP, RSS

Our principles of effective web design include:

navigation - easy to move around the site;
orientation - user knows where they are in the site;
consistency - across all levels of the site to support ease of use;
identity - supporting the desired project or brand image;
visual appeal - encourage user interaction and perceived site quality;
accessibility - optimise access by all types of users, equipment and connection speeds, including people with disabilities;
maintenance - easy to manage and update.

Website design and production for Flinders Consulting (Flinders University) consortium for divert assessor training: SA Police Drug Diversion Initiative. Site production, private online space for trainers, email and web forum setup and staff training.

Technology: MS Frontpage and FP extensions, Snitz open source forum and browser uploading of documents.
